Privacy policy
HeaterLeak is built to need as little of your data as possible. The triage runs entirely in your browser; we don't ask you to sign in, and we don't collect names, addresses, or contact details. This page explains the few places data is involved.
The triage tool
Your answers — leak location, age, and heater type — are processed in your browser to produce your result. They are not sent to us or stored on a server. The only place they persist is the page URL, so you can copy a link to your result or bookmark it; that link contains only your three non-personal choices, nothing about you.
Analytics
We use privacy-respecting analytics (Google Analytics 4) to count visits and understand which pages help people, so we can improve the tool. We configure it to record only the page path — not the query string — so your triage answers are never sent to the analytics provider. Analytics data is aggregate and not used to identify you.
Affiliate and advertising links
Some links are affiliate links, clearly labelled as advertisements. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases, and a "call a plumber" placement may compensate us when you call the listed number. Following those links takes you to a third party (such as Amazon or a lead provider) whose own privacy policy then applies. We are not paid for the triage's verdict — the recommendation is the same whether or not you ever click an ad.
Cookies and local storage
We store a single setting in your browser — your light/dark theme choice — so the site remembers it. Analytics and any advertising partners may set their own cookies as described in their policies. You can clear these at any time in your browser settings.
Children
HeaterLeak is written for adults dealing with their own plumbing — homeowners, renters, and landlords. Children under 13 are not an intended audience, and nothing on the site is aimed at them.
